When it comes to bathing, I am in the camp of preferring bar soap to liquid soap. Except when it comes to washing my hands and washing my hair. That is when my preference turns to liquid soap.
I like to have liquid soap in a beautiful pump bottle in the bathroom, especially when I have guests over. I find it more convenient to use than having bar soap.
Until I tackle the challenge of making liquid soap, which requires the use of potassium hydroxide (a blog post coming soon), this is how I make my liquid hand soap and hair shampoo from a bar of soap.
If you do not make your own soap, you can use hotel soaps or soap you buy from the supermarket that does not have a lot of chemicals in the soap. I use natural homemade soap. So, depending on the soap that you use, you may have a different result.
To make the liquid soap, I used a cheese grater to shred one bar of soap. I placed the shreds in 725 grams of hot distilled water, stirring until melted.
I add a teaspoon of vegetable glycerin.
Once it cools down a bit, essential oils can be added. This part is optional if you don’t like scented soap. The pot was placed in the refrigerator to thicken.
I used a stick blender to blend, and then I poured it into a bottle. At this point I add a preservative. If I don’t use a preservative, I keep it refrigerated for about 3 months.
