I am still in the Christmas spirit and will still be in the spirit until the end of the holiday season. So, I decided to make some soap and put a little green color for my second Christmas holiday soap. I am still trying to find the right formulation for my soaps so I am still in the testing phase of trying different formulations for my ideal soap.
I like using natural colorants and herbal botanicals to color my soap. To get the green color for this soap, the ingredient that I am experimenting with is Spirulina in the powder form. This is my first time using this powder. The powder does give off a fishy smell but the scent is not in the final bar.
What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows in fresh water. It is known as a superfood due to its protein, vitamins, and antioxidants properties. It is not a plant but it does have some characteristics of a plant. It is sold as a powder and in tablet form.
Not only is Spirulina powder good to use in soapmaking, you can also add the powder in a face mask to help nourish the skin and boosts collagen production.
