I’ve been experimenting with making herbal oil infusions with different types of herbs and powders for the skin, hair, and body. When making an infusion, you are extracting all of the healthy properties of that herb to infuse into the oil.
You can make an oil infusion using the hot or cold method. Using the cold method, you put your herbs or powders into a jar of oil and you sit it on a window sill where there is plenty of sun and shake it every other day for 4 to 6 weeks.
My preference is the hot method. My oils of choice are either olive oil or sunflower oil. I put the herbs in a sanitized jar with oil and place the jar with a closed lid in a pot of water on the stove to simmer on low heat for about four hours.
For this infusion, the herbs I have chosen are horsetail, nettle, sage, and coltsfoot. I chose these herbs because I was looking to create a hair oil to strengthen and condition my dry hair. Combining these herbs with other ingredients in a hair formulation would make a powerful hair oil.
I am currently on a hair journey because my hair is signaling to me that it needs to be nourished. And, just like the skin on your body, your hair needs to be nourished for it to be healthy.
