Oatmeal Soap

November 26, 2025 by Connie Leave a Comment

In the previous post I showed the crack in my oatmeal soap. I wasn’t going to post this picture of the soap. But, I want to show you what the soap looks like after the cutting. The crack was not throughout the soap it was just on top of the soap. The soap is safe to use.

Oatmeal soap benefits the skin because it’s soothing, moisturizing and hydrating. It is also a gentle exfoliant that helps to remove dead skin cells.

The ingredients used are olive oil, coconut oil, sustainable palm oil, pomegranate seed oil, and castor oil. Pomegranate seed oil is the star. It is considered a luxury oil to use in cold process soap because it is an expensive oil. It also promotes skin regeneration.

Olive Oil: 39.58%

Sustainable Palm Oil: 25%

Coconut Oil: 22.92%

Pomegranate Seed Oil: 8.33%

Castor Oil: 4.17%

I used soapcalc.net for the calculation of the lye and water.

Water as % of Oils: 37%

Superfat: 5%

Put on your safety gear (goggles to protect your eyes, mask, and gloves) for the soap making process.

Once the lye water and oils were at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the lye water was poured in the oils to emulsify. The ground oats were added at thin trace.

Lavender essential oil was used. But, it is optional.

Once the mixture is poured into the mold, cover with a plastic wrap on top and cover with a lid.

Wait 24 to 36 hours to remove the soap from the mold.

After unmolding, cut the soap into bars and allow 4 to 6 weeks to cure on a cookie sheet. Turn the bars over every other day to allow the water to evaporate from the bars.
