The last time that I made kokum body butter I added arrowroot powder not only for a less greasy feel, but for a luxurious feeling. But it did not come out exactly as planned due to adding too much of the arrowroot powder which caused the body butter to harden with a crumbly texture because the arrowroot powder absorbed too much of the oils.
This time, I reduced the percentage of the arrowroot powder and kokum butter. Although the body butter came out much better than the one previously made, and it does have a lovely smooth feeling, it is not the luxurious feeling that I was trying to create.
I am still learning and experimenting with arrowroot powder to get that powdery luxurious feeling. This body butter used 0.5% of arrowroot powder and 65.5% kokum butter. With the previous kokum body butter, I used 2% arrowroot powder and 75% kokum butter.
Because of the moisturizing and nourishing properties of kokum butter, which is great for dry and mature skin, I will continue to experiment with the butter when using arrowroot powder in the formulation.
Ingredients:
Heated Phase
65.5% Kokum Butter
26.5% Chia Seed Oil
4.5% Shea Butter
Cool-Down Phase
2% Lavender Essential Oil
1% Vitamin E Oil
0.5% Arrowroot Powder
Instructions:
Weigh the heated phase ingredients in a glass bowl
In separate glass bowls, weigh the cool-down phase ingredients.
Place the heated phase ingredients in a water bath on low heat to melt.
Once the heated phase ingredients have cooled down a bit, place the bowl in the refrigerator for 1 hour to solidify.
Once the mixture is semi-solid remove from the refrigerator and whisk with an electric blender.
Add the cool-down phase ingredients. Whip.
Use a spoon to transfer the body butter into a jar.
