This blog post welcomes an ingredient that I have been interested in experimenting with for my face. One of the ingredients that you may find in your facial creams or facial serums is Hyaluronic acid.
This ingredient comes in a powder form or a gel that has already been made. I used the powder form to formulate this hyaluronic acid serum with just three ingredients: distilled water, hyaluronic powder, and a preservative.
Because I am in the “mature skin” category, I will be experimenting more with this ingredient by adding plant oils and herbal extracts to this formulation to address my specific skin needs.
I have been applying this serum to my face morning and night. Then I apply a moisturizer.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin to help keep it hydrated. It is a molecule that is made in the body and can absorb up to 1000 times its weight in water.
It also helps with reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making your skin look younger, which is a benefit for mature skin.
Classifications of Hyaluronic Acid:
Very Low Molecular Weight (hydrolyzed). Allows for better absorption in the skin. Provides hydration. Decreases fine lines and wrinkles. Suppleness benefits.
Low Molecular Weight. Reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration, suppleness. Penetrates deeper into the skin.
High Molecular Weight. Moisture protection. Decreases trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).
