When I became interested in making my own natural skincare products I bought a few books that shared recipes with measurements of cups, teaspoons, and drops. But, this method did not teach me how to formulate my own skincare products. It just taught me how to follow a “recipe” to make a product.
That began my journey in learning the art and science of skincare formulation. And beginning to think in terms of percentages when making a product because if I want to duplicate what I’ve made in a bigger or smaller batch, I need to know exactly how much was used for that particular ingredient. Using cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, and drops did not help. When you are creating a skincare product, your recipe needs to add up to 100%.
Ingredients:
Mango Butter 32 grams 64%
Safflower Oil 14.5 grams 29%
Kiwi Seed Oil 2 grams 4%
Vitamin E Oil 0.5 grams 1%
Lavender EO 1 gram 2%
This moisturizing, hydrating, body butter is great for mature skin. It has two phases: Heated oil phase and cool-down phase. The mango butter was heated and once melted, I then poured the safflower and kiwi seed oil into the melted butter. The vitamin e and lavender essential oil was added in the cool-down phase.
Once the mixture cooled down a bit, I placed the glass bowl in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes to solidify. And then whipped into a luscious soft body butter.
