I am not much of a coffee drinker, but I do drink it on occasion. I love the taste of it and the delicious aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Even if you don’t drink coffee, or you drink it occassionally, coffee has some wonderful skin benefits.
Coffee has antioxidant properties helping to boosts circulation, tighten the skin, rejevenate the skin, reduce puffiness and dark circles.
It is because of the skin care benefits that coffee offers that I wanted to make this soap. This is my first time making soap using coffee instead of distilled water. So, for this facial soap I did not add the coffee grounds for exfoliation.
The liquid oils used to make this soap are, olive oil, palm oil (sustainable), coconut oil, sunflower oil, and avocado oil. But, the star ingredient is coffee.
To make this nourishing facial soap, I brewed coffee. Once the coffee cooled down, I poured the coffee into ice trays and put it in the freezer overnight.
The next day I heated the oils and carefully sprinkled the sodium hydroxide (lye) on the frozen coffee cubes and stirred to dissolve.
After pouring the lye solution into the oils and blending, the soap was left to saponify and was unmolded 36 hours later.
These bars will cure for at least 4 to 6 weeks before using.
