So, I was trying something new because I am still in my learning phase of formulating skincare products. One of the things that I love to do is to give myself a pedicure. I love to pamper my skin. So, I thought that I would make my own scrub. I love to exfoliate my skin. I love facial scrubs, and I love foot scrubs.
There are different types of exfoliants that can be used to remove dead skin cells. You have physical exfoliants such as wash clothes, brushes, gloves, and scrubs. There are also chemical exfoliants such as Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), and Beta-Hydroxy Acids (BHAs).
There are different ingredients that can be used in a scrub if you do not want to use sugar. You can also use salt, pumice powder, oatmeal, and ground almonds. Sharp abrasives should not be used on the face.
I was trying to create a physical exfoliant in the form of a sugar scrub for feet. Although this foot scrub is usable because it will perform the function of exfoliation, it did not come out as well as expected. At first it was too oily. I continued to add sugar to absorb the oils, which made it worse because it changed the original formulation.
I used brown sugar which is a natural exfoliant that has not been bleached, and it is softer than granulated sugar. Sugar scrubs are gentle. They help to rejuvenate the skin. They remove dead skin cells promoting cell regeneration. It softens calluses and corns on the feet.
This recipe needs to be tweaked. But I am reminded of a quote by Thomas Edison when he was asked why he failed 10,000 times with the electric light bulb. He reportedly responded by saying, “I have not failed 10,000 times. I successfully found 10,000 ways it will not work.”
